We are always looking for new committee members for fresh ideas along with help with inductions and general admin. If you'd like to join us then please email us. We meet every few months, normally with a drink in The Fox.
Hi. I am Nick the Chair of the Leafield Community Gym Committee. I first got involved in the gym project in 2013 when the gym was just a glint in Froggy Hall’s eye. At this time I had recently moved to Leafield, and got involved as a way to make new friends and give something back to the community. I took over from Froggy as Committee Chair in 2015.
My favourite way to keep fit and manage stress is running. I use the gym to stay healthy during the winter months when its too dark, cold or wet to jog outdoors.
My wife and I moved to Leafield in 2013 when, keen to get involved in village life, I was more than happy to join the founding committee to set up the gym. My hobbies in retirement include travel, photography and sport (particularly rugby, football and cricket where Northampton's teams are my passion!). I feel very proud of what we've achieved with the gym and, with such great facilities and a thriving membership, we must be the envy of many other villages.
A Leafield (and UK) resident since 2006, I retired in 2014 and enjoy the best of two countries – here and the USA, where I’ve lived in 10 states (mostly in Oregon) and visited all 50. I'm keen on exploring the countryside and beaches, gardens, good food and drink, travel and obsessed with the environment/conservation and politics. The gym was all Froggy’s idea…first proposed at a Parish Council meeting, to which I thought (and said) “YES!” to helping establish it. Our gym is a really pleasant space to be in and definitely an enhancement to the village amenities. Best of all, it’s convenient –- saving time, expense and stress. For me, using the gym is the perfect topping to a walk or cycle ride in our neighbouring countryside.
I have lived full-time in Leafield since 2006, with my husband Chris. I love the diversity of village life here and enjoyed being part of the setting up of the gym. This local amenity helps the community flourish in so many ways and I am very pleased to be involved in its ongoing success.
I was a member of the gym for a year before joining the comittee to help out where I can. I have two children at Leafield Primary School so between working and after-school activities, there isn't much time to exercise. I find the Leafield Gym is the perfect way to keep fitness levels topped-up without having to travel for miles. I mainly enjoy running in the cold months and cycling in the warm months.
I have lived in Leafield since 2006 with my wife, 3 kids and our 2-year-old Maltese dog. I come from a military background and have found peace and quiet in this lovely village. Fitness has always been a way of life whether cycling, running or working out at a gym. It's nice to be able to put something back into our community, which is why I have joined the Gym committee.
